truly makes it all worthwhile. Days are long on light and full of sunshine. Typically July 4th marks the end of regular rain and from now until September it's warmth and abundance all around. Local berry farms are teeming with ripe strawberries, blueberries, and cane berries (raspberries and blackberries), farmers markets are ramping up with great veggies, you can darned near find a live outdoor music festival most any day of the week, wineries are open daily for tasting, and the smell of freshly cut hay is ever present. It certainly makes those cold dark and rainy winter nights a distant memory for sure.
Tonight I'm hangin' at the casa by myself. Mr. Yogagirl headed out for camping up near the Breitenbush river ..but he'll be back tomorrow afternoon to "fetch" me after I finish teaching my morning classes. With us both working Monday thru Thursdays we've managed to make Thursday night through Saturday our bulk of the weekend. Except for this week when he gets tomorrow off (because he works four 10 hour days and has Fridays off anyway). It works well...Oregon is the kind of place where every weekend can literally be a "mini-vacation" of sorts. We're an hour from the beach, 5 minutes from vineyards, 2 hours from the mountains, and minutes from some pretty fun rivers and lakes.
Speaking of mini-vacations...our Vino & Vinyasa event at Left Coast Cellars on July 11th is filling up quickly. If you're an Oregon local or at least in the Portland/Vancouver metro area consider a mini vacation with us. You'll get a yoga class, breakfast, vineyard walk with the winemaker, and a 4 course wine pairing lunch for around $50. What a great way to relax and stretch while being surrounded by Oregon's bounty!
